Great Wedding Movies
Hollywood knows how to hit the target with blockbuster films that reflect our daily lives. And one of the most bankable subject matters is the parody of a wedding. Whether the film makes you laugh or cry, we all want to see a story of romance with an uplifting or tragic ending. It really doesn't matter, as long as we are entertained. Yet Hollywood's best successes are delivered with the comedy approach. If you are soon to be married, were once married or run like the wind from ever getting married, there's a wedding-theme comedy out there waiting for you.
Father of the Bride hit pay dirt with Steve Martin in the title role in this wildly popular 1991 remake of the 1950 original with Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor. Steve Martin plays George Banks, a jittery father upset about the loss of his daughter to marriage. Father of the Bride also stars Diane Keaton and Martin Short for an A-list comedy cast to bring the house down. This is a must-see video for anybody who's about to slip on those diamond engagement rings and walk down the aisle, and while you're at it, grab a copy of the sequel, Father of the Bride ll for double the nuptial fun.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding was a low-budget box office surprise, nominated for an Oscar for best original screenplay. The story centers around a Greek family living in Chicago and offers some memorable scenes and witty dialog as Toula Portokalos must convince her Greek father to accept that she wants to marry outside of the Greek culture. This film is destined for a classic and a must-see for anyone who needs a good laugh. Nia Vardalos wrote and starred in this whimsical masterpiece that is sure to crack a smile.
Four Weddings and a Funeral was the 1994 hit starring Hugh Grant and Andie McDowell about a group of friends and a succession of marital vows with bumps and curves along the way. Written by Richard Curtis, this romantic comedy is intelligent and engaging, making it a perfect ending to your wedding shower.
Other significant films to hit the mark with the alter antics include My Best friend's Wedding and The Runaway Bride with Julia Roberts, The Wedding Planner with Jennifer Lopez, The Marrying Man with Kim Bassinger, and the off the wall comedy with Adam Sandler starring with Drew Barrymore in the The Wedding Singer.
